I had a really amazing week book wise. Last weekend I was able to go to C2E2 where I got to meet some amazing authors including one of my favorites Charlaine Harris. I got some books from my personal collection signed and I was lucky enough to be given books so now I get to read some wonderful authors that I didn't know about before last weekend. I am skipping photos for this IMM and have just created a list.

Fluffy Review - Nightshade by Andrea Cremer

Nightshade was a book that I was eager to read as soon as I saw the cover and after reading the description I knew I would love this book. 

The plot hooked me from the beginning and there were many twists and turns, they were totally unexpected and kept me reading from beginning to end.

Calla is a great character and she is strong, she knows what she wants but is torn by her duty as Alpha. You can feel her conflict and it really makes you feel for her and wonder how you would react in the situation.

For Shay and Ren, I am unsure who's side that I want to be on. I am still liking both but each has reasons for me to not choose them. I am hoping to really get to know them better in Wolfsbane so I can pick a side for who I am going to root for. I also loved the pack members and I am really hoping to find out more about them in the upcoming books.

Nightshade is a wonderful new spin on werewolf novels and it is a refreshing change to the vampire theme that seems to be the big thing in YA at the moment. I know there are other werewolf novels already but until now I had avoided them for some reason but this has really changed my mind on the theme and I can't wait to read more. I just hope that they can live up to Nightshade.

Waiting on Wednesday - Purity by Jackson Pearce

This week for me it is Purity by Jackson Pearce. This book just sounds like it will be a refreshing change to all the paranormal books that I have been reading lately and I have been waiting for it to be released for a couple of months now.

Fluffy Review - Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick

I was excited to read this book after hearing so much about it for so long. I think all the praise for the book gave me too high expectations though. That isn't to say that I did not enjoy the book, because I did, it just took me a little while to get into the story when I felt that I should be hooked from page 1.
Hush, Hush started a little slow for me and it took me a little longer than I expected to really like the characters but I am so glad that I stuck with reading the book.
I came to really like Nora and I loved that she just doesn't give up. At first I thought her character was dull but she evolved as the book went on and her relationship with Patch just made me keep reading. Patch is the total bad boy who you should never like but of course you always do. The mystery around him fustrated me as I hate not knowing things and the book ends with more questions that I needed book 2 straight away.
While slow in the first half the book really gets going in the second half. The twists and turns were unexpected and they really kept me hooked till the last page.
For anyone who loves all the paranormal romance that is out now I highly recommend this book

This week for me I am waiting for Pretty Crooked by Elisa Ludwig. This is one I have been looking forward to reading since I heard about it last year. Not long left to wait now.

Fluffy Review - Unearthly by Cynthia Hand

Unearthly is the story of Clara who has just found out that she a part angel and is learning what this means for her. What her duty is to be. Clara is a great character that is so easy to like, even though she is part angel she is still just a normal teenage girl. The boys in the book, Christian and Tucker, are great and it is so hard to to be rooting for just one of them. The whole triangle with them is so well written. It was a refreshing change to have the relationships develop over time rather than the I have seen him, I love him that is frequent in a lot of YA novels.

This book was so easy to read and I couldn't put it down. I was hooked from the beginning and was sad when it ended. This is most definitely a favourite in the selection of angel themed YA books around at the moment.

Unearthly is a wonderful read and a great start to a new series. The sequel Hallowed is out now and while I am hoping for the answers to some of my questions in there I am also hoping for a book 3 too.

2012 Debut Author Challenge

I have just signed on to the 2012 Debut Author Challenge that is hosted by Kristi over at The Story Siren. This is a great challenge that promotes first time YA and middle grade authors. I read some debuts last year and they were wonderful and I am sure that this years selection will not disappoint.

Fluffy Review - Legend by Marie Lu

I was very lucky to be at SDCC when Marie Lu was there promoting Legend last July and even luckier to get a signed ARC of the book to read. After hearing about the book I was pretty excited to get to read it and I was not disappointed.

I have only just started reading dystopian novels as prior to The Hunger Games and Legend I just didn't think they were for me. After reading Legend I think I am converted, and I am really hoping for a sequel and soon.

Legend is told from 2 alternating points of view. The first being Day, a teenage boy who is the Republic's most wanted criminal. Fighting for his and his family's survival on a daily basis. The second being June, the prodigy from an elite, wealthy family who seems to have everything going for her.

After her brother Metias is killed June is hired to work for the Republic in his place and track down his killer, Day. While I found that someone so young could be a little unbelievable in this role I was able to buy into it. This is a dystopian novel, set over 100 years in the future. Just because that wouldn't happen now does not mean it is totally unbelievable. I enjoyed how the story played out and the twists and turns. The story was fast paced and didn't hang around.

I was hoping to learn more about the Republic and how it came about and also more about what is happening with the Colonies but hopefully this will be explained more in a sequel for 3.

If you enjoy dystopian novels I think that you will enjoy this one and if you are new to dystopian novels like I was I think this would be a great introduction for you.

Fluffy Review - Angelfire by Courtney Allison Moulton

The Preliator is a very powerful warrior who has the skill and ability to kill the reapers that end up in our world to cause harm. She is an immortal that is reborn time and time again into a mortal body. Ellie has discovered her powers and her destiny but still has a lot to learn about who she is and was.

Angelfire is a fast paced novel with lots of action and great fight scenes. I couldn't put this book down and was sad to get to the end of the book. I was left wanting more and have unanswered questions which I hope I will get some answers to in the sequel.

The Fluffy Unicorn Bookshelf is back! 2011 was a very busy year for me and unfortunately I did not have a lot of time to read and update. I have missed this blog and having my own little part of the Internet. Now I have more time I am able to dedicate some time to updating and I hope that if you read in the past you will continue to read now.
